He had siblings Nicholas Taflan Jr, Simon Taflan, and Suzanne Taflan Wilson. He married Margaret Botts Taflan, and had children Mary Margaret Taflan Paal and Nicholas Matthew Taflan. Matthew Taflan died at age 68 years old on March 15, 1983 at Wheeling Hospital Inc 1 Medical Park, in Wheeling, WV.
