Michaela M Cohan
Michaela Marie Cohan's parents were George Michael Cohan Jr (1914 - 2000) and Loretta Rondash. She was the granddaughter of George M. Cohan, a famous entertainer. He was a playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, and producer. According to Wikipedia, "George Michael Cohan, Jr. (1914–2000), graduated from Georgetown University and served in the entertainment corps during World War II. In the 1950s, George Jr. reinterpreted his father's songs on recordings, in a nightclub act, and in television appearances on the Ed Sullivan and Milton Berle shows. George Jr.'s only child, Michaela Marie Cohan (1943–1999), was the last descendant named Cohan. She graduated with a theater degree from Marywood College in Pennsylvania in 1965. From 1966 to 1968, she served in a civilian Special Services unit in Vietnam and Korea. In 1996, she stood in for her ailing father at the ceremony marking her grandfather's induction into the Musical Theatre Hall of Fame at New York University." When she was age 25, in October 1968, Michaela was interview by the Lancaster New Era, a newspaper in Lancaster, PA. part of the article said: "Unlike her famous grandfather, the attractive, brown-haired girl did not sing or dance. I don't have the talent," she said. "If I did, I would." Instead, Miss Cohan explained, her job was 'sort of like being a stage manager' arranging for USO shows and making sure the service clubs ran smoothly. Miss Cohan said she preferred not to discuss the political aspects of the war. (Here, she is referring to the Vietnam War.) Miss Cohan said she never knew her grandfather. 'He died the year before I was born' she said, but added, 'I've heard his songs since the time I was born. I love his music." It seems that Michaela never married or had children but she went on to hold a number of impressive jobs (see Michaela M Cohan: Professions) and also volunteered for John Glenn's Presidential candidacy. I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director
My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
