My Grandmother was an Olsen, married to Archibald Slater, My family has tried fo years to find out anything about My dad's father. Dad died last year from Lukemia. We where interested in medical history, more than anything. We found a few referances about Archibald and his sister who was a pianist and a meso-saprano, and worked for Thomas Edison in N.J.. My dad was born in East Orange, N.J. We have a copy of the mariage certificate but not dad's birth certificate. The court house burned sometime in the 1940's. I know it's a far shot, but because of your proximity to where my dad's family was from, I couldn't resist taking the time to contact you. My Dad's full name was Martin Frederick Slater, He was born in 1934. His father did try to contact him after his birth, but my grandmother was apposed to the idea, and had her brothers escort Archie form their home. We had heard from my Grandmother's sister that Archie was working as a musician on a cruse ship to Cuba at one point (1950's) when I was a small child.
Thank you for your time and trouble.

I am the oldest daughter of Martin F. Slater, who was the son of Archibald Slater, who was a saxiphone player for Paul Whitman. My Grandparents divorced before my dad was born. The Court HOuse in N.J. where my dad's birth records where burned, and we never saw a copy of his birth certificat. My family and I had found a picture on the Edison National National Park site with picture of Archie and his sister, but that is all we have ever been able to find.
