Monty F Stratton Jr
Monty Stratton Jr. was the son of professional baseball pitcher, Monty "Gander" Franklin Pierce Stratton Sr. (1912-1982) who was best known for the five years he pitched for the White Sox, from 1934-1938. While still a pitcher, Monty Sr. lost a leg in a hunting accident and became the subject of a 1949 movie "The Monty Stratton Story" in which the elder Stratton was portrayed by actor Jimmy Stewart. Wearing a prosthetic leg, Stratton played in the minor leagues from 1946 to 1953. Monty Jr's mother was Ethel Ester (Milberger) Stratton, 1916 - 2006. His only sibling, Dennis Stratton, died at the age of 23 in 1964. Monty Jr and his wife, Patricia Maytas, who he married in 1957, had 3 children: Monty III, Susan, and Donna Kay. One of the photos in "memories" (Monty Stratton Jr Family) is from a July 26, 1969 St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper article in which the Stratton family is told to get rid of their 6 ducks. The ducks were Easter presents for the 3 children and Monty Jr was said to show the pluck of his famous father by fighting the order. Monty Jr had this to say about his father: “I was with my father the last week of his life,” said Monty Jr., who worked several years for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis. “He knew what was going on. He had no fear. One night he said he hoped that in lieu of flowers or some other remembrance, perhaps some memorial could be enshrined, maybe at a children’s hospital. He thought it might serve as an inspiration to some youngster fearing a dismal future because of a loss of an arm or leg.” To learn about Monty’s father, see : Monty "Gander" Franklin Pierce Stratton Sr. Monty Jr. was a veteran of the United States Air Force. His rank was "A2C". And A2C in the Air Force is the second lowest enlisted rank in the US Air Force. Later, he worked for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director
My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
