Obituary for Mr. Alva "Al" Crosby, Jr.
Alva “Al” Crosby, Jr., 90, of Lakeland, Florida, born in Plant City on June 26, 1931, entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2022. He was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, a member of Northside Baptist Church, and a Millwright with Local 1000. He enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by wife, Evelyn Crosby; and grandson, Kaleb Pedone. He is survived by children, Carol Crosby Austin (George) of Lakeland, Kenneth Marvin Crosby (Teri) of Plant City, and Gary Crosby (Joy) of Plant City; grandchildren, Tammi, Neal, Kelly, Matthew, Kevin, and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Kirestine, and Lexi; and great-great-grandchildren, Brantley, and Kaley. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 17 at 11:00 A.M. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 South County Road 39, Plant City, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. Graveside committal to follow at Hopewell memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice at chaptershealth.org. I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
