Our American Gothic Grandparents
This photo was found in Mary Lillian (Kling) Wion's album. Believe they are her materal grandparents from Pennsylvania. They immigrated from Ireland
We think this couple looks like the famous 'American Gothic' painting. Does anyone recognize them? The apron could have been changed special to take the photo, because it looks fairly clean. We have another of the man leading a horse with a small girl on top of the horse. The photo was found amongest Mary Lillian (Kling) Wion's few surviving possessions in 1994. She left Pennsylvania around 1916 so the photo was taken before that time. The only thing we know for sure is that this couple's daughter, Irene, was born in Ireland in 1870 and was brought to Pennsylvania as a young girl. Irene may have had siblings or other children of her own. What we do know is that Irene first married Henry S. Kling (1865 - 1915) from Franklin Co., PA, and they had a daughter, Mary Lillian Kling (1894 - 1926). Henry S. Kling soon left this wife and daughter and went on to marry Alice Harding with whom he had five more children. We believe Irene married twice more and died in Uniontown, Fayette Co., PA about 1960, but without a surname we cannot find more information on her or her parents. Would love to share data and photos on Mary Lillian's family and her father's. If you have any clues please contact me.
