His parents divorced when he was only 3, and his single mother had to take in washings to keep the family together. He was a sickly child and was kept in the house missing out on schooling. When he was able to attend school, he had a great desire to learn and it drove him to study hard. His mother married a Canadian wheat farmer and moved the family to
Saskatoon, Sask. It was in school there he discovered the beauty of poetry. He wrote his first poem at 10 years of age and has written thousands of poems since. When he turned 18 he came to America to finish high school. He was the only one of his siblings to finish high school. Soon after graduation he married a college girl Lucy Ellen Fairbrother. They had three children Lowell E. Paulson, Diane Lucy Hudson, and Charmaine Lindsey Grubb. After the war they divorced and he moved to Texas, to sell for Boye Needle Co. While working as a traveling salesman for that company he met the love of his life, Elva E. Muelker, they married in 1953, and have worked together as a team until his death January 25, 2012.

He is survived by his wife Elva, his three children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, seventeen nieces and nephews.
Having come through many hardships himself, he tried to help many of those around him when he had achieved a measure of success. All who knew him were made aware of his love for poetry, and his love for the Lord. The majority of his poems had a spiritual theme. He was most pleased when a friend videoed him reciting several of his poems and placed them on u-tube.
