CHARLOTTE – Paul Matthew Holbrook, 51, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1972, in Charlotte, NC to the late John and Mary Holbrook.
Paul was the third of four children. He was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System from kindergarten through 12th grade and received an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Paul married Elizabeth Wilson Holbrook in 2012. He professed his life to Christ at an early age. Paul had lived nearly his entire life in the Charlotte area, having only lived elsewhere in Boone for a period while attending Appalachian State University. He was a long-time member of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews and had loved participating and serving in the youth ministry as a youth intern over several summers. He also attended other churches in the area with his wife, including Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and, most recently, Harrison United Methodist Church in Pineville. Paul always enjoyed learning about the Bible, developing his faith and engaging with others.
Paul worked in finance for many years, primarily for Wells Fargo or one of its related entities, until his health limited his ability to commit to full-time employment. Most recently during times when his health was more stable, he worked for Lowe's Home Improvement and always enjoyed interacting with coworkers as well as the customers needing assistance with their home and yard projects.
Paul cherished working in the yard with his mom and after she had passed away, he continued enjoying his time outside planting and maintaining his own yard. Always with a sense that his mom was right there with him. He enjoyed being out, shopping or dining out with his wife or just being amongst people going about their days. Paul also loved spending time with family, road trips to the beaches and mountains and time with his closest college friends, "The Boonies". Paul's dogs, Bailey, Shelby, Daisy and Hopkins brought him so much joy and companionship. He always seemed to keep a positive spirit despite his health concerns often setting limits on his hopes and dreams.
Paul was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know him was to love him." Paul leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth; mother-in-law, Emily Wilson; sisters, Kim Smith and her husband, Tommy and Heather Karhan and her husband, Dave; nieces, Alexis Jones and her husband, Ryan and Olivia Smith; nephews, Will Karhan and Ben Karhan. Also surviving are his uncle, Lewis Riddle; aunt, Val Holbrook and a number of cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Harrison United Methodist Church, 15008 Lancaster Hwy, Pineville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Paul to the , 8177 Regent Parkway, Suite, 103, Fort Mill, SC 29715 or , 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.

Debby Stevens
I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
