Peter Raftery

Peters residence in records is Boyle but this is where he enlisted, he was actually the son of Martin and Julia. Raftery who ran a successful wool weaving business in the Garrai Glas in Claddagh Galway. The photo was taken before he shipped out to France and died during the 10th RDF assault on the German redoubt at Beumont Hamel in the final days of the Battle of the Somme. He is one of the approximate 94,000 casualties from that campaign with no known grave commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.
