Ralph James Holbrooks, 78, of Shiloh, died March 26 at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston. Funeral Services were conducted at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Manchester March 29 with Reverend Drew Stephens of Shiloh Baptist Church in Thomaston officiating.

Burial was at Meriwether Memory Gardens with Terry Moss, Woody Woods, Gene Davis, and Jim Clayborn serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Holbrooks was born August 24, 1922 in Toccoa, son of the late Geneva Brown Holbrooks and the late Arthur Holbrooks. He was retired from General Motors and was a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah R. Postell of Shiloh and Geeorgene H. Cawthorn of Westminister, South Carolina; one son, Donald Wayne Holbrooks of Westminister, South Carolina; four brothers, Hal Holbrooks and Lawrence Holbrooks, both of Westminister, Tom Holbrooks of Pendleton, South Carolina, and Linberg Holbrooks of Social Circle; one sister, Frances H. Sciflet of Anderson, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Browning Postell of Shiloh, and Danielle and Lucas Cawthorn of Westminister.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
