He married Kathryn M (Kueny) Murphy, and they were married until Kathryn's death on February 16, 1970. He had a child Mary Kathleen (Murphy). Ronald Murphy died at age 79 years old on December 9, 2005, and was buried at National Memorial Cemetery Of Arizona
