Rosa Gabriele
A photo of Grace Gabriele Karlsen's mother:
Rosa Poletta Gabriele of Crucoli, Calabria. She married Rocco Gabriele and was referred to as Rosina and had 6 sons and 1 daughter. Names anglicized to Ralph, Tommy, Arthur, George, Armand, and Jimmy. My mother was called "Tessie" [Teresina] and she hated the name so much that none of her children knew it was her first name until her funeral! She ran away from home at 14 so she could go to high school. Her mother Rosina was not educated. But Grace was brilliant in art, music, theater, opera, languages and dance. Grace was cursed with excessive and uncontrollable jealousy. Notice Rosa's dimples because all of my 7 grandchildren have them!
Her father was Austrian and allegedly from royalty but that odd mixed blood from all over Europe was found in our DNA. The date had to be in the late 1940's. Her back yard in Brooklyn. They had fig trees and raised 7 children there on Albany Avenue.
