Roy Abel Crissman

I have an old studio photograph identified as Roy Able CRISSMAN which appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Roy less than one year old at the time it was taken. The photograph was gifted to "Aunt Mollie". Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Roy and his family:

Roy Abel CRISSMAN was b. 30 Sept 1897 in Shenandoah County, VA to parents George Lewis or Louis CRISSMAN (1874-1934) and Gertrude “Gertie” Julia GRANDSTAFF (1870-1931) who were married 24 Dec 1896 in Shenandoah County, VA. Roy was one of 6 children born to this couple including Roy Abel; Irene L.; Tressie; John Rhodes; William Arthur; and Joseph Cutler CRISSMAN, all born between 1897 and 1911.

Roy married Vida Marie EPPARD or EPARD or MONTGOMERY (1900-1981) on 18 Sept 1919 in Hagerstown, MD and they had two children including Iona Marie CRISSMAN BECKER (1921-1985) and Roy Carl or Abel CRISSMAN Jr. (1926-1975). Roy died 26 Sept 1928 in Arlington, VA and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church, VA.

I believe that “Aunt Mollie” is his mother’s sister Mollie E. GRANDSTAFF b. 26 Aug 1860 in Shenandoah County, VA to parents George Washington GRANDSTAFF (1833-1912) and Eliza ARTZ (1837-1911). Mollie was one of 5 children born to this couple including Samuel M.; Mollie E.; George A.; Gertrude Julia; and Josie L. GRANDSTAFF, all born between 1857 and 1880. Mollie married Harrison FADELEY (1855-1936) in 1883, and they had 7 children including Hallie Edward; Gussie Albert; Ruth Ann; Mamie; Leorna; Harrison G.; and Ralph Below FADELEY, all born between 1883 and 1897.

Mollie died 14 Nov 1913 in Edinburg, VA.
