Sarah Jane Zumwalt was born to Henry Miller Zumwalt (1802-1850) and Jemima Boone (1804-1877). Her siblings were Elizabeth (1819 - 1870), Vaun (1826 - 1868), Nancy (1827 - 1899), Mary Elizabeth (1828 - 1880), Melcena (1831 - 1892), Hulda (1831 - 1880), Francis Marion (1834 - 1892), Benjamin Franklin (1834 - 1902), Vernetta P. (1838 - 1913), Julia Ann (born 1839), Barbara (born (1842), Nathan Boone (1844 - 1907), Minerva (1845 - 1929), and Andrew Zumwalt (1848 - 1860).
Sarah Zumwalt married John Henry Jump Jr. (1832-1901) on May 13, 1858, in Polk, Missouri. They had the following children: Jemima, John Henry, William, Nancy Ann, Robert "Bob", Lucretia "Creasy", Sarah Frances (1876 - 1877), Sarah Catherine "Cat", Mary "Molly", Martha, Iva, and Dorothy Jump.
In the 1910 federal census, Sarah was going by "Sarah J Jump". She was widowed and living on her own on her farm that she owned. She wasn't able to read or write and stated that she had 12 children.

I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown.
