What I love about these old photos is that back then you didn't have these stupid filters and stuff to change a person's looks. You got to see the real person. They were either attractive or not, and that's just how it was. And compared to the way people today rely on plastic surgery among other things to get by, even the homely people from the older photographs become more attractive to me because of the realness of them.
They used to alter photographs with paint and brushes. Waists and necks in particular were frequently altered. I don't know about this particular picture, but I would wager that the woman's neck was made narrower on the left side, and her right shoulder may have been lowered a bit to enhance the appearance of her neck.
