Taneko (Hino) Erles
Himejima Kodomo-en (kindergarten) 19 yr. old Taneko with fellow grade school teachers in Osaka 1943. Note the contrast in dress between the traditionalists and the 'modern' ladies. Before the war western dress gained in popularity among the younger generation. However during the war, western dress, except as when purely functional, was frowned upon. As can be seen, Taneko, ever the independent spirit, still favored western dress.
