My Father Tommy Antoghame was highly respected and he was well known for his exquisite ivory carvings made out of walrus ivory; he carved owls, sea otters and cormorants, etc. He was a bowhead whaling Captain and captured 15 + bowhead whales along with his crew in his life time. Tommy worked for AWOS-FAA for 30 + yrs, Airline Agent for Baker Aviation, Hageland, Era/Frontier. He served in the Military, he worked for United Steel Workers of America in California for 13 years, he served on the IRA Council for the Native Village of Gambell for many years, mentored young adolescents men on the importance of keeping our subsistence ways of living, he gave good advices and used his knowledge and skills in keeping the custom alive. He had many, many friends from all over Alaska, and the world. He had a great sense of humor and he had a heart of gold. His favorite verse was PSALMS 91:4.
