I am the daughter of my late Father Thomas Antoghame and my Mother Shirley Antoghame. My Father "Tommy" was well known for his exquisite walrus ivory carvings which he used to carve owls, cormorants, sea otters, etc. He was a very talented artist and a truely devoted subsistence hunter, a whaling captain of his boat which captured 15 + bowhead whales in his lifetime along with his crew. He served on the IRA Council, Native Village of Gambell for many years, worked for FAA 30+ years, Airline Agent for Baker Aviation, Hageland Aviation and Era/Frontier, he volunteered in many community projects and events, he was also known to have been the last bowhead whale hunter to utilize a walrus skin hide boat. With his knowledge, he kept the tradition alive and mentored many young men & adolescents about the skills to survive and about the importance of our traditional ways of living off of the land and sea. My Mother, Shirley graduated in West High School in Anchorage, Alaska and moved to California, Alameda College where she attained a degree in Business Administration. She met Tommy in Oakland, CA and they got married there. Locally she has worked in various positions in Gambell, Alaska as an Agent for Public Assistance 30+ yrs, Agent for passport services, Gambell School Cook, Teacher Aide, City Clerk 10+ years, Sivuqaq, Inc. Clerk, NVG Grantwriter, NSEDC Liason, Youth Coordinator, community events, served on the BSSD AEC and Regional School Board for many years, Construction Cook, Gambell Native Store Manager 10+ yrs and she is currently serving as a Board Member for NSEDC.
