BORN 1923 DIED 2015 FUNERAL HOME Shepherd Funeral & Cremation Service 216 Main St Kingston, MA VIRGINIA KANDOLA OBITUARY Virginia Ann Kandola, of Kingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 24, 2015. Virginia was born September 3, 1923, in Portland, Maine. She was the daughter of Margaret and John McDonald, originally from County Claire and Galway Ireland respectively. Virginia graduated from South Portland High School in 1941 and attended North Eastern Business School graduating in 1943. After graduating, she worked at Peabody and Lane Shipping Company in Portland, Maine, where she met her husband, Kjell Kandola. In later years, she worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare where she was promoted to case manager and received accommodations for her service. They were married on July 24, 1954, eventually settled in Kingston, where she raised their seven boys in the family home which was built by Kjell. The boys enjoyed growing up along the Cape Cod Bay. She enjoyed many interests including playing piano, reading, watching classic movies and the Boston Red Sox. Virginia is survived by her sons, Kris and his wife Denise (Ohio), John (Wash.); daughter-in-law Lexa (Mass.), Peter (Kingston), Paul (Kingston), Kevin and his wife Karen (Millis), Mark and his wife Elizabeth (Calif.) and her late son Mikal. Virginia was most proud of her three grandchildren, Teryn, Shelley, and Shannon and great-grandson, Aidan. She will be missed by her surviving brothers, James McDonald (Maine)and Frank McDonald (Maine). She was predeceased by John McDonald (Calif.), Joe McDonald (Maine), and Margaret "Peggy" LaRose. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and Cranberry Hospice for the loving care Virginia received during her final days. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, Monday, July 27, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Elm Street, (Route 80), Kingston, Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
