I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of Thomas BURBANK which was taken at the J. K. Brown Studio in Augusta, ME. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860’s with Thomas appearing to be in his 40’s at the time it was taken. In addition to his name, someone has also written “brother of Grandmother BLAISDELL – whose maiden name was Hannah BURBANK” and “The family story goes that it was Thomas BURBANK who perfected the Burbank Potato, and not Luther Burbank – SNM”. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Thomas and his family:
Thomas J. BURBANK was b. 19 Mar 1816 in Trenton, ME to parents Johnson BURBANK (b. 29 Jun 1779 in Newbury, MA-d. 13 Jan 1866 in Cooper, ME) and Abigail HARRIS (b. 15 Feb 1781 in Beverly, MA) who were married on 11 or 12 Jun 1801 in Beverly, MA. Thomas was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Moses; William H.; Hannah; Maria Jane; Edna J.; Thomas J.; Eliza A.; and Abigail J. BURBANK all born between 1802 and 1823 in Beverly, MA, Trenton, ME, Eastport, ME, and Cooper, ME. Thomas married Harriet HITCHENS and together they had 9 children including, Henry J.; Julia A.; Thomas W.; Moses; Sylvester; Hattie E.; Abbey; Edmund; and William BURBANK. A second marriage was to Harriet L. LELAND.
Thomas’ sister Hannah (b. 3 Mar 1806- d. 1892) was married to Timothy BLAISDEL.
I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this BURBANK Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Agnes KENNEDY which was taken at the Bridge Studio in Mechanic Falls, ME in the early 1880's. Agnes appears to be in her teens or 20's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Agnes and her family:
Agnes Elizabeth KENNEDY was b. 25 Dec 1863 in Ontario, Canada to parents Joseph KENNEDY and Agnes KELLY. Agnes married James William HADDOCK (b. 24 Mar 1863 in Kingsey Falls, Quebec, Canada – d. Aug 1940 in Laconia, NH – son of Henry HADDOCK and Elvira Louise WILCOX) on 25 Dec 1883 and together they had 2 children including, Joseph Henry HADDOCK (b. 16 Jun 1885 in Kingsey Falls, Ontario, Canada-d. 1954); and Everard “Ebb” Albert HADDOCK (b. Mar 1887 in Kingsey Falls, Ontario, Canada-d. 1918). Agnes died 22 Aug 1888 in Mechanic Falls, ME.
I am hoping to locate someone from Agnes’ family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

A photo of the Warren Eastman Robinson Memorial Gateway which is located at the southwest corner of the campus on Park Row and College Street. This stately gateway was the gift of Anne Johnson Robinson in memory of her husband, Warren Robinson, class of 1910, who died in France during World War 1. The gateway was dedicated in 1920. This postcard shows the corner of the Walker Art Building, dating it prior to the construction of Gibson Music Hall, probably in the 1930s.

A photo of Warren Eastman Robinson. He entered Bowdoin a boy just passed sixteen, the youngest of his class. Beneath the charm of his boyishness there underlay maturity of purpose and stability of character. These innate qualities of manliness joined to a singular good humor, a rare capacity for friendship, a quick intelligence, and a discriminating intellect made him at once a leader in our undergraduate life. He graduated summa cum laude and embarked immediately on what he designed for his life career, the work of a teacher of science and mathematics. But "the end men look for cometh not, and a path there is where no man thought." Lieut. Robinson first went into the front line with his unit in the Chemin des Dames sector early in February. 1918, and remained with them until the spring. He was in the thick of the July fighting in the Pas Fini sector Northwest of Chateau Thierry that saved Paris and crushed the last German offensive of the war. Here he was cited in divisional orders for bravery. Then in September began the forty days of the St. Mihiel fighting and after ten days rest he was with his unit in the line again, this time in the Neptune sector, north of Verdun, and East of the Meuse. The glorious dawn of victory was breaking over those shattered trenches. On November 5th, he was chosen to conduct a difficult piece of reconnaissance in the German lines. Though grievously wounded in the enemy's wire entanglements, he succeeded in leading his men back to their own lines. On the next day, he succumbed to his wounds and died. The deed of gallantry that cost him his life won him a recommendation for the Distinguished Service Cross. Source: Bowdoin Orient (24 June 1920)
