Obituary for Waylon Lee Spurgeon
Waylon Lee Spurgeon, 75, went from this world to his heavenly home on January 10, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice. He was born in Nashville, TN to the late Robert and Carolyn Spurgeon and raised in Florence, AL where he attended Coffee High. He received a degree in industrial engineering from Auburn and a MBA from UAH. He served his country in the Alabama National Guard and later as a civilian contractor. During his career he worked on many defense contracts and the space shuttle program. After retiring he and Gail did volunteer mission work with Alabama disaster Relief and Alabama Campers on Mission until he was no longer able because of Parkinson disease.

He was proud to be an Auburn engineer and liked everything Auburn. He also liked to tinker with old clocks, rebuild old cars, and fish with his grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail. Two daughters, Dana Carroll (Doug) Northport, AL and Leigh Peters (Herby) Newville, AL. Five grandchildren: Emily Carroll, Ethan Carroll, Elise Carroll, Asher Peters, and Cloie Peters. Two brothers, Tim Spurgeon, Muscle Shoals, AL, Shaun Spurgeon, NYC, one sister, Jacque Phillips, Chelsea, Alabama, 2 nieces, 5 nephews, 7 great nieces & nephews and many friends.

A Celebration of his Life will be January 13, 2023 at 3 o’clock at Community Baptist Church, 28480 Lambert Road, Ardmore, Alabama. Visitation will be 1 PM – 3PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alabama Campers on Missions, % Joyce Goodwin, 18496 Plywood Road, Andalusia, AL, 26421.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
