The inscription reads: “In memory of our ancestors who lie in eastern graves – William Salmon born in England – 1610 sailed for America age 25 – landed at Hashamomoobe, Long Island – 1635.

There appear to be several disagreements with this inscription.
William was born in 1610 in Nazeing, Epping Forest District, Essex, England. He was a blacksmith. He died before May 13, 1673 (1657) in Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He died intestate “so that all his right, title and interest in all the aforesaid premeses fell to the said Sarah his wife and the issue he had by both (wives).” He married Katherine Curtis before 1643. She was born about 1614 in Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York; she died about 1650/51 (1738 according to findagrave). He married Sarah Horton. She was born about 1630-1634 in Southold, Suffolk, Long Island, New York; she died before April 3, 1686 in Southold, Suffolk, Long Island, New York.

We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown.
