You should be able to look up your mom's name and see if there are any clues on www.ancestry.com. It cost s money to have an account with them, but it's free through your local library. You'll need her birthdate. Start with yourself and then go back with her, and pretty soon little leaves will appear on your page next to the names, which will give you links to censuses, other people researching your family, etc.
