Greene's first war bride! The Iowa Recorder Wednesday, Sept. 26, 1917
Miss Zella Downs War Bride-
David Shook came home from Des Moines last week on a short furlough and on Friday afternoon, Sept 21st, he and Miss Zella Downs drove to Allison, where they married, David returning to Des Moines Saturday evening.
Of the many young couples whose plans have been upset by the war, Mr and Mrs. Shook are one, and all the people will extend their sympathy and encouragement. David Shook is one of our best young men who early in the summer enlisted for the cause of our country and has been at Camp Dodge, where he has been already advanced to an Officer, that of a Sargeant. His company is moving and this brought him home for the farewell visit and the marriage was suddenly planned and carried out.Mrs. Shook is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Downs and a young lady highly respected by all and who has the sympathy of a large circle of friends. She is Greene's first war bride.
