He taught band at Lakeview, Oregon from 1950 to 1962, Orchestra at La Grande, Oregon from 1962-1964, and Orchestra in the Highline School District in South Seattle (Des Moines, WA) from 1964-1968, and

Horace was born in "Indian Territory" which later became the state of Oklahoma. His Father (Grant Z Arment) and Uncle (Franz Arment) had moved to the indian territory temporarily to serve as private contractors as freighters, providing supplies to the native Indian population in Oklahoma. Grant Z Arment (prior to Horace's birth) was a personal witness to the last indian war massacre at Wounded Knee in South Dakota in 1897. He was evidently there as a freighter in the same capacity as Oklahoma.

Roa worked as an accountant for Van Petten Lumber Company in the 1930's, and later, for the State of Oregon, Dept of Social Services, both in Ontario, OR. Horace passed away in early 1980.
