She was married to Horace L Arment, and had a child James J Arment. Roa Arment died at age 92 years old on June 22, 1998 at Nursing Home in Ontario, Malheur County, OR.

  • Introduction

    Roa's maiden Name was Phillips, and she was the youngest of 3 children. The oldest was Bill and middle child was Dorothy. Roa married Horace L Arment in 1926, then moved to Payette, Idaho.They moved to Ontario Oregon in 1934, where she resided until her death in 1998. Roa worked as an accountant for Van Petten Lumber Company in the 1930's, and later, for the State of Oregon, Dept of Social Services, both in Ontario, OR. Horace passed away in early 1980. Horace and Roa had a son, James J Arment, born Aug 27th, 1927. He passed away from a heart attack at age 42 and is buried in the same Ontario, Oregon cemetery. In the 1940's, Helen Hurd of Springfield, OR (married name) was their live-in housekeeper in Ontario. Their only child, James John, married Betty Barry in 1951 in Lakeview, OR. They have 4 sons, Jay, Nick, Kenneth, & Barry.

In 1906, in the year that Roa G Arment was born, Finland became the first European country to give women the vote and to allow them to run for political office. (Women in Australia and New Zealand already had that right but couldn't run for office.) Although Finland belonged to the Russian Empire, there was great unrest and the Tsar wanted to broker a quick peace. As a part of the brokered peace, women got the vote.

In 1925, at the age of 19 years old, Roa was alive when on November 28th, radio station WSM broadcast the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. Originally airing as “The WSM Barn Dance”, the Opry (a local term for "opera") was dedicated to honoring country music and in its history has featured the biggest stars and acts in country music.
