History

A family of the name Berget lived in the county of Lorraine, in North East Belguim. I must assume they owned land there. The family crest is a white shield with a plain, large blue cross on it. At each of the 2 corners, in the upper left and right of the shield, is an acorn with a green oak leaf. Where the shield's outer lines curve inwards to a slight point, dead centre, at the bottom of the shield, is the 3rd acorn and oak leaf,, on the vertical of the cross.
Our ancestors were Huguenouts. The Roman Catholic majority turned their hand against our family, who were forced to flee for their lives because they were vastly outnumbered. I think this was in the early 1800s. They moved to Norway, and changed the family name to Gundersen. From there part of the family moved to New Zealand. We still live here, as well as Norway, the USA and probably other countries as well. I am Keith Thomas Gundersen. I am 66 years of age. I live in Hamilton, NZ.
