I.D. Best, 1912-2004, Richmond

I.D. Best, 92, of Richmond, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at North Kansas City Hospital.

He was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Mayview, a son of John R. and Ethel Decker Best. On May 22, 1938, he was married to Almeda E. Nutter, who died April 2, 1996.

Mr. Best was a Mayview High School graduate. He was a lifetime farmer on his farm north of Richmond. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities including Sunday school teacher and as a deacon for more than 55 years. He was a member of the Millville R-II School Board for several years, having served as president for 14 years.

Surviving are two sons, Harold "Goodie" Best, and his wife, Anita, and Larry Best, and his wife, Kathy, all of Richmond; a daughter, Mary Narron, and her husband, Jerry, of Lexington; a brother, Lloyd Best, of Sedalia; eight grandchildren, Chris Luehrs, of Lexington, Tyler Best and Valerie Luehrs, both of Lee's Summit, Trevor Best, of Kansas City, Brandon Narron and Brian Narron, both of Kearney, Heather Farnan and Melissa Best, both of Richmond; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Lee Luehrs, who died Aug. 16, 1997; a brother, Lee R. Best; a sister, Dollie L. Woods; and an infant grandson, Jerry Mark Narron Jr., who died Feb. 20, 1980.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hickory Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
