Alice Victoria (Booth) Hiron was born on January 26, 1864 in Fitzroy, VIC Australia, and died at age 72 years old on July 22, 1936. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Alice Victoria (Booth) Hiron.
Jean M Hiron of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA was born on May 27, 1901, and died at age 67 years old on September 15, 1968.
Bernard Hiron served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a gunner, a bomb disposal officer and a strong swimmer. On March 31, 1946 his mine disposal vessel, the HMCS Talapus was dispatched to Long Beach to dispose of a Japanese mine that had been spotted by fishermen. After locating and disposing of the bomb, his bomb disposal unit’s small boat was swamped by heavy seas. Bernard instructed his men to hold on to pieces of the boat while he tried to swim for help. He never made it to shore. He drowned, leaving behind his 5 year old daughter, Thelma and his wife Mary. He had a funeral with full naval honours and is buried in the naval/veterans cemetery in Colwood, BC. Bernard was posthumously awarded a Memorial Bar.
