Ada Mary (Crowe) Hiron of Victoria, Capital County, BC Canada was born on January 18, 1913 in Victoria, BC. She was married to Bernard Edward Hiron on May 30, 1936 in Victoria, Capital County, British Columbia, and they were together until Bernard's death on March 31, 1946 in Victoria. She had a child Thelma Mary (Hiron) Thomlinson. Ada Hiron died at age 87 years old on January 13, 2001 at Glengarry Hospital in Victoria, BC, and was buried on January 22, 2001 at Hatley park memorial gardens in Colwood, BC County.

Bernard Hiron served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a gunner, a bomb disposal officer and a strong swimmer. On March 31, 1946 his mine disposal vessel, the HMCS Talapus was dispatched to Long Beach to dispose of a Japanese mine that had been spotted by fishermen. After locating and disposing of the bomb, his bomb disposal unit’s small boat was swamped by heavy seas. Bernard instructed his men to hold on to pieces of the boat while he tried to swim for help. He never made it to shore. He drowned, leaving behind his 5 year old daughter, Thelma and his wife Mary. He had a funeral with full naval honours and is buried in the naval/veterans cemetery in Colwood, BC. Bernard was posthumously awarded a Memorial Bar.
