I do not know his birthdate or remember his death date. I remember being told he passed while sitting next to a tree deer hunting (one of his favorite pastimes) in the state of New York with 1 or more of his sons in approximately 1979 or 1980. I believe my grandmother said his actual cause of death was a heart attack. He was known to be severely diabetic. He was married to Emma “Mert” Kelchner. And had 5 or 6 children, 1 daughter, the rest sons. His last and i believe lifetime residence was on a small farm property he owned and the area is referred to as “Hetlerville” a small farming community outside the town limits of Mifflinville in Columbia Co.,PA.
He was the youngest of Tennyson’s 3 children to my knowledge, was a WWII veteran. Married Helen (Ent) Kelchner (unsure of date) and had 3 sons, Steven, Norman and Lee. He passed away in the early 80s (cannot remember the date) and his cause of death was complications of Colon/Liver Cancer which he bravely fought for 3-4 years up until his death.
Was married. Do not know wife’s name. Daughter’s name was Lamoine. Article in the Wilkes Barre Record Newspaper talks about a surprise birthday party that was thrown at his home on April 10, 1929 for Lamoine.
Tennyson Kelchner of Nescopeck, Luzerne County, PA was born on March 1, 1899, and died at age 68 years old in September 1967.
Janice was Tennyson and Helen’s only daughter and the middle child of 3. She grew up outside of the town of Nescopeck and completed her high school education at Nescopeck High School in 1942. She married Edward D. Yoder (son of Rufus and Margaret Yoder, Nescopeck PA) on July 29, 1942 and Edward was swiftly drafted into the army, thereafter, in WWII. Edward or “Ed” as he was nicknamed, affectionately nicknamed Janice, Jay. Their oldest son, Earl Yoder, was born shortly after Edward left to fight in WWII. Janice gave birth and raised him on her own for 3 years until Ed returned. 3 years and 1 child after they wed, Edward was finally honorably discharged from the army with special medals of honor and allowed to return home to Janice and his then 3 year old son, Earl. On November 18, 1947 their second son, Daniel Martin Yoder, was born and 11 months following, in 1948, their youngest son, Wayne Clinton Yoder was born. Janice was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker assisting in the family farm and bookkeeping for each of Edward’s business ventures through the years. The last and longest business they ran together being the Nescopeck Service Station and Massey Ferguson dealership which they started in 1967 and sold at their retirement in 1985. During that time they also bred and raised German Shepherd’s. Janice had one white German Shepherd as her faithful companion, Rosy, among several others that protected their farm and businesses. They also raised and sold beef cattle. They also made time to travel frequently in later years. Janice was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary where she was best known for her quilting, sewing and culinary skills. Quilting, embroidery and baking amazing pies were just 3 of her favorite pastimes. She was a loving mother of 3 sons and grandmother to 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a few years prior to her death, 1 great, great grandchild. Her family was her greatest treasure and her focus was always on being the glue that held it together. Always, in our hearts.❤️
