Atashni was my Great Grandfather. Most of what I learned regarding his life was from his son Louis Macamaux my Grandfather and the Abenakis Nation, Odanak Band. I am told the last name was changed to Macamaux by dropping the ic from Macamic and adding aux and the changing his first name from Atashni to Anselme another French name. This was supposedly done so he could get into U.S. as a Non-Native. Around 1865 when U.S. was trying to get rid of the Native Peoples Atashni and his wife Tama Pamanuk (had 5 children 3 boys, Louis, Adelard, Robert, and 2 girls) we have no information on.
Name means Rainbow. Died during birth.
Istas Macamic was born at Lake Abitibi in Canada, and died at Abitibi, Canada in QC. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Istas Macamic.

Louis Macamaux was my Grandfater and Atashni Macamic (Louis Father) was my Great Grandfather. Atashni was from the Abenakis Nation at James Bay Canada. He is my Great Grandfather.
Atashni and his wife Tama Pamanuc gave birth to 6 Children 3 boys, Louis, Robert, and Adelard . There were 3 sisters as well. Their names were Ouyu (Rainbow), Dyant (Deer), and Istas (Snow). The reason for this post is because many Macamaux of the current generation believe that the Macamaux name came from Rhode Island when in fact it came Canada. For those interested, although you are several generations even from me you also have Abenakis blood running in your veins.
