George Maharis
Born George Mahairas on September 1, 1928 to William (1892 - 1991) and Demitra (Stani) Mahairas (1907 - 2004), when he became an actor, George changed his surname to Maharis. He had four brothers and two sisters; and also one half-brother. George Maharis was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving for 18 months. Actor: - He was best known to television viewers as Buz Murdock on the early 1960s CBS prime-time drama "Route 66" from 1960 to 1963. -He trained as an actor at both the Neighborhood Playhouse and Actor's Studio. -He got his start in acting on the theatrical stage before going on to television. -In 1953, he made his television debut on "The Philco Television Playhouse." -Besides "Route 66," he went on to appear in numerous television series such as "Naked City," "Search for Tomorrow," "The Most Deadly Game," "The Bionic Woman," "Police Story," "Fantasy Island," and "Murder, She Wrote." -In 1958, he made his film debut in "The Mugger." -His later film credits included such titles as "Exodus" (1960), "The Satan Bug" (1966), "The Desperados" (1969), "The Sword and the Sorcerer" (1982), and "Doppelganger" (1993). -He also recorded six pop music albums during his career.
