Neil E. McNeice Sr. was born to Sarah McNiece (1887-1976) and was married to Helen Maxine McNeice on April 12th 1946 in Casper Wyoming. The couple had two children including Neil McNeice and Chella Garrett (1960-1998).
Neil was a "self-taught geologist and weekend prospector" who discovered with his wife a large uranium deposit on September 13th, 1953 during a prospecting and antelope hunting trip.
At the time of his death, he was best remembered as being credited with beginning the uranium boom in central Wyoming's Gas Hills which resulted in 3 decades of prospecting and more than 150 million pounds of uranium oxide produced. See Neil E McNeice: Obituary for details.
Neil S. McNeice Jr had a sister Chella, and his parents were Neil E McNeice (1909-1994), and Helen Maxine (Clow) McNeice (1909 - 1994). They were married 47 years, until Neil E.'s death. Interesting aside about Neil's father: he discovered a sizable amount of uranium in the Gas Hills of eastern Fremont County in Wyoming. Neil Sanford McNeice Jr. was married twice. His second wife, Kimberly, and he had a daughter Kristin Ann (McNeice) Dolan and a son Casey McNeice. He also had stepchildren Airalia Keime and Kitt McNeice. His first wife was Pamela S. White, who he married in 1973. They were both 18 at the time.
Neil was a well to do businessman who was wrongly blamed for, and associated with, a murder after his own death. Accusations were made by the defense attorney of the actual accused murderer. The attorney erroneously stated that Neil had hired a couple of recently released prisoners to carry out the killing.
