Mary Louise Gulley was born to Boyce Luther Gulley (1881 - 1945) and Frances Louise Bradford (1893 - 1972. Her father was born in Arkansas and her mother was born in Indian Territory, Oklahoma. She had one brother, who was born in 1916. Mary Lou, as she was known, inherited the "Mystery Castle" in Arizona, which her father built.
