Awarded the Bronze Metal Star
For displaying unusual courage in action, Capt. James C. Notgrass, Jr., son of Mrs. J. C. Notgrass, 1295 N. Congress St., has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Capt. Notgrass volunteered for service in the National Guard on his graduation from Central High School and was inducted into the U.S. Army with the original Company "'F' of the 155th Infantry, in November, 1940.
He went overseas in November 1944 aS Commander of Company "A' 69th Divison, and after a short interval in England, this Division was assigned to combat duty in the European theatre, participating in the battle of Cologne and the battle of Leipzig. His company was the first unit to make junction with the Russians along the Elbe River, arriving within minutes after the surprise juncture with the advance reconnaissance squad.
In addition to his most recent decoration, Capt. Notgrass wears the Pre-Pearl Harbor Ribbon, the Good Conduct and the ETO ribbons with two battle stars. His wife, the former Beverly Camp and lit. tle son, James Carlton III, are in Buffalo, N. Y.

Honoring Lt. and Mrs. James Carlton Notgrass Jr., whose marriage took place in Jackson on Saturday, March 20, Miss Anne Caus-ey entertained at a lovely dinner in Mrs. Black's Tea Room last Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Notgrass, the former Miss Beverley Jeanne Camp of Buffalo, N.Y., wore a rose crepe frock with harmonizing accessories. Her corsage of sweetpeas was a gift from the hostess, who also presented the young couple with silver in their pattern.
Covers were laid for the bride and groom, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Notgrass, Mrs. Nettle Norris, Miss Sarah Notgrass, Ben Williams and the hostess.
