sconsing Family History & Genealogy

I have in my possession an old studio photograph of Mr. & Mrs. SCONSING which was taken at the H. J. Chalmers Studio in Madison, MN. The name "Eunice" also appears on the back of the photograph. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with the couple appearing to be in their 20's or 30's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this couple:

Ole Johan Hendrikson SCONSING (may have been SKONSENG or SKAANSENG in Norway) was b. Jun 1865 in Ranem, Norway to parents Henrik Michael Kristensen SKONSENG (1825-1876) and Ingeborg Anna HENRIKSDATTER JAMTLI (b. 1825). Ole was one of 8 children born to this couple including Christense Olava; Jens Kristian; Henrik Heitmann; Ole Greger; Ole Johan; Ole Johan Hendrikson; Johan G.; and Johan Greger SKONSENG, all born between 1855 and 1874.

Ole married Caroline “Lena” or “Lina” JOHNSON (1881-1961) on 23 Jan 1901 in Madison, MN. They had three children including Eunice Teresa or Theresa; Orion Henrickson; and Vivianne “Vivian” Carolyn or Carol SCONSING, all born between 1902 and 1921. Ole died 12 Dec 1954 in Kandiyohi Co., MN and is buried in the Zion-Irving Lutheran Cemetery in Hawick, MN.

Caroline “Lina” or “Lena” JOHNSON was b. 27 or 28 Jan 1880 or 1881 in Big Bend, MN to parents Knute “Knut” or “Knud” Johannesson Espetvel JOHNSON (1843-1931) and Anna JENSDATTER QUAM or KVAM (1853-1928). Caroline was one of 13 children born to this couple including Jens “James” Haes or Hass or Hess; Johanne or Johannes “John” K.; Johanna “Hannah”; Anna or Anne; Caroline; Sina; Ole C.; Amandus M.; Levi A.; Carolus Knute; and Naomi J.; Dewey; and Nornie JOHNSON, all born between 1870 and 1898.

Caroline married Ole “Henry” SCONSING and she died 19 Jun 1961 in Irving, MN or La Grange, IL and is also buried in the Zion-Irving Lutheran Cemetery in Hawick, MN.
