Annie McTier Showalter Roop, VA
Annie McTier Showalter Roop, my great-aunt, was called "Aunt Mac" by everyone. She was born in 1884 in Pulaski County, VA. She was a wonderful woman whom everyone loved. She looks just like my grandfather, Wm Nathaniel ("Willie") Showalter. She married Grover Roop.

This is a photo from approx. 1976 of my grandfather, Oden Showalter and my grandmother Mable (Showalter) from Radford, Virginia. (Thats me in the background)
Josiah Roberts Showalter ("Rob")
This is a photo of my father's Uncle Rob (full name, Josiah Roberts Showalter). He was born in 1881 in Pulaski Co., VA, amd died in 1970 in Kenbridge, VA. His father was Nanthaniel Pryor Showalter, my great-grandfather, and his mother was Mary Louise Roberts. Rob, along with his brother Giles, ran a flour mill in Blackstone, VA in the early 1900's. When this mill flooded, they then started one in Kenbridge, VA. This mill was eventually destroyed by fire.
First Christian Church, 1927, Radford, VA
This is the congregation of the First Christian Church of Radford, VA, taken approximately 1927. This building was later torn down and a new one built. My father (Robert H. Showalter) was about 3 or 4 yrs old at the time, and is marked with a blue arrow (far left). My grandfather (Wm Nathaniel Showalter) is marked with a red arrow (far right).

Allisonia Public School, Allisonia, VA, in Pulaski County, VA. This picture was probably taken somewhere between 1905 and 1910. My grandfather, Wm Nathaniel Showalter, was the pricipal at that time (back row, far right).

Sallie Showalter Hawley
Sallie P. Showalter Hawley. She was my grandfather Showalter's sister. She married a Hawley. She died at an early age (24 1/2) 6 week's or so after her first son, Curtis, was born. It is said she died of Typhoid, but it has also been speculated that the medicine given for the Typhoid contained arsenic - not as poison, but unknowingly. She grew up in the Hiwassee area of Pulaski, in the town of Snowville, VA. She was born Dec 30, 1875, and died Aug 19, 1900.
Wm Henry Showalter w/ dog, Wheeler
This is William Henry Showalter (b. 2/28/1841, d. 7/25/1914). He married Sarah "Betty" Roberts and they had eight children - Lucy, David, James, Corille, Alice Thomas, Robert, and Mary. They resided in Pulaski County, VA. Wm Henry is a brother of my great grandfather, Nathaniel Pryor Showalter. Sitting next to Wm Henry is his dog, Wheeler.
Giles Showalter
This is a picture of my grandfather's brother, Giles Showalter. Giles owned and operated a flour mill in Kenbridge, VA in the early/mid 1900's. He was born in Pulaski Co., VA.

N P Showalter Homeplace
This is a picture of my great grandfather's homeplace. It was built approx. 1896. This picture was taken around 1902, and was located in Burks Run in Pulaski County, VA. The home burnt down not too long afterward. Family in front is as follows: (L to R)- Nathaniel Pryor Showalter (age 54); James Earnest Showalter (age 23); William Nathaniel Showalter, my grandfather (age 16); Annie McTier Showalter (Roop), (age 18), grandfather's sister; Henry Bernard Showalter (age 13); Mary Louise Roberts, age 54 (my great-grandmother); Nannie Byrd (neighbor); Josiah Roberts Showalter (age 21).
The lumber to construct the house came from native trees, cured for 3 months prior to construction and hand dressed. The stone for the 2 chimneys was quarried on location, dressed by Lockard Covey (father of Fred Covey of Radford). Chimney was built by Lockard Covey. The mortar for the chimneys was made from a base of lime quarried on location. The carpentry was done by Henry B. Showalter (first cousin of NP Showalter), and helped by NP Showalter and family. The parlor was ceiled by wood from a lynwood tree which grew on Laurel Creek in Max Mountain. The shingles were made from white pine; riven on location.

N P (Nathaniel Pryor Showalter)
A picture of my Great Grandfather, Nathaniel Pryor Showalter. He was born 10/4/1848, and died 12/10/1935. He lived his entire life in Virginia, mostly in Pulaski/Montgomery Co., VA. He was married to Mary Louise Roberts, born 5/23/1848, died 1/13/1905. Their son, William Nathaniel Showalter, is my grandfather.

He grew up in Pulaski Co. VA (Hiwassee). He was a farmer and a teacher, and attended Milligan College (in TN). Lois, his wife, was born 7-12-1869 in Kirkwood, MO and died 9-21-1958 in Pender Co., NC. They had four children: Daphne, Portia, Lucia, and Eustace Wesley.
