David W. Stinson was a soldier in the United States Civil War. He enlisted as a Private with his brother, William A. Stinson, in Company D, 56th Virginia Infantry, on July 8, 1861 at Staunton Shop. In 1862, his regiment was captured at Fort Donelson but were rapidly exchanged. David was hospitalized at Farmville, Virginia, when the regiment was sent to Gettysburg. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on May 20, 1864, and ended the war as a Lieutenant. He was paroled at Farmville, Virginia, sometime between April 11 and 21, 1865.
After the war he married Cornelia Frances Norvell. He was a trustee of the Buckingham County School Board and received a salary of $30 annually.
His obituary claims, "Mr. Stinson was one of the few Confederates who were left in this community."

Margaret Denver Stinson
I have an old postcard photograph of Margareta STINSON which was taken at the Wilson Studio in Astoria, OR on 10 Sept 1912. Margareta appears to be about 5 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Margareta and her family:
Margaret Denver STINSON was b. 19 Jun 1907 in Jewell or Portland, OR to Damon Edward STINSON (1886-1952) and Maude Agnes DENVER (1888-1965) who were married 20 Jun 1906 in Clatsop County, OR. Margaret had one sibling, a sister Roberta Jean STINSON KAUFMAN (1921-1989). Margaret married three times, first to Herbert Travis CAMBERG (1899-1953) on 18 Oct 1930 in Woodland, WA and second to Maxwell Richard YOUNG (1915-1968) who she married on 23 Sept 1939 in Vancouver, WA, and then third to Carl Arvel EDWARDS (1907-1982) on 4 May 1952 in Portland, OR.
Margaret died 28 Jul 1977 in Portland, OR and is buried in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
I am hoping to locate a family member so that this precious family treasure can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.

J. W. STINSON DIES AT WHITE GATE
J. W. Stinson, 68, prominent farmer, died at his farm home at White Gate on last Wednesday night. He had been in ill health for sometime suffering from a cancer. Mr. Stinson has been a teacher in the Sunday School for a number of years. Funeral service were conducted from the White Gate Baptist Church on Saturday morning at 10 oclock with burial in the Stinson Family Cemetery near Mt. Zion. Rev. Virgil Anderson, Methodist pastor at Mechanicsburg was in charge of the services assisted by Rev. John W. Sherman, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
