The Boxer Rebellion was an anti-foreign and anti-Christian uprising in
China that occurred from 1899 to 1901. The rebellion was led by a secret society known as the Boxers, who sought to expel foreign influence from China and restore traditional Chinese culture and values. The Boxers attacked foreign missionaries, businesses, and civilians, as well as Chinese Christians and government officials who they perceived as collaborating with foreigners.

The conflict resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, both Chinese and foreign, and the intervention of a multinational force. The rebellion ended in 1901 with the signing of the Boxer Protocol, which required China to pay indemnities to foreign powers and grant them increased access and privileges within China.
