When I was very little, unknown to me at this time until later, that I was only a year and half old when this incident happened. I recall the drive very well. Remembering a man came to pick me up from the hospital, at the time, known as Sanitarium, currently Seventh Day Adventist Hospital/Convalescent home, in 1960, He laid me down in the back seat of the car, and drove me home. Later I found out, that I was in the hospital due to pneumonia and ear infection that kept me in for 2 weeks. My parents were allowed to see me because I would cry hysterically and be very upset, so it was suggested back in those days not to visit. Parents staying the night was unknown at this Anyways, my uncle David lived very close to the hospital, offered my parents that he would bring me home. I remember the ride very well, I see this old car, do not recall what model it was at the time, and laying down, looking up out the window, seeing the electrical wiring and telephone pole, wiring going up and down as we drive along. I hope I'm making this clear, because I was stunned to find out how old I was at that time. I do not recall anything before it or after that. I love Uncle David, one was one of my favorite uncles along with all other uncles I have. He always made sure I understood him when he talked to me as I had hearing loss. I love you Uncle David, will always remember you. I look to the day I see you again. --- Darlene

My mother had hearing loss. As an infant mother had whooping cough and was considered not going to live. Mom explained that Grandma J.G. Banks gave her to a white witch who lived next door, thinking that was the last time will see Elma alive. The white witch was considered a good witch, used all kinds of natural herbs on mom. Two weeks later mom was doing a lot better. Eventually the high fever damaged the nerves to her ears, which was the cause if her deafness as an infant.
