2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!
Ruth Elvira Horne
Ruth was an extraordinary person and a unique teacher. Hundreds of her students at Rolling Hills High School remember Ms Horne for her sympathy, her dynamism and for her most original character. She had giant greek mythology paintings on the wall of her class room and a fridge always full of drinks that students could quietly buy softdrinks from, to sponsor the school’s Girls Service Club (among others). Ruth was a great fan of the UCLA Bruins and also a tireless world traveller. She litterally made friends all over the globe. She probably had very expensive phone bills for all the international calls she made regularly to those friends. Her volunteer work at the L.A Olympics (1984) then with the International Olympic Committee in Geneva, allowed her to gather one of the largest Olympic pins collection in the country. Ruth always has a few Olympic pins with her that she would use to thank the people she would meet who were particularly helpful and smiling, like she was. Ruth was also a writter who published many books under an anomymous pen name. The profit from her books was donated to charity, mostly to the American Cancer Society which she was an active member of. Ruth did not use email but she would write those long letters at Christmas time to summarize the main events of the year about to end. She had many other talents, including being a singer in the church choir. We miss Ruth and would greatly appreciate reading more about her. So if you knew Ruth, please contribute your own memories of her. Thank you.
