Donald “Don” Howard Novas was born to Eugene Urban Nettesheim (1895-1987) - later known as radio personality Gene Urban - and Mabel Alice Novas, (1914-1973). He had three half-siblings, one of whom was Marie Mácová.
Don, age 18, married Clarice Randall, age 17, on August 7, 1948 in Blackfoot, Bingham, Idaho. They had 3 daughters and two sons, one of which was Kim Donna Stoddard (1955-2005). Kim was crowned "Miss Provo" in 1977. Daughter Argean took up flying, following in her father's footsteps. Argean's son, Rocco DeVilliers, made a movie, "THE FLYBOYS", which won awards. The movie was inspired by his summers with his grandparents, Don and Clarice. See "The Flyboys" film to read more about the film and its plot.
Don was fond of airplanes and had a P-51 Mustang, T-33 and Twin Beech. He advertised his services for crop dusting. He was also a Bishop in the Mormon Church.
On April 20, 1972, Don's Beechcraft C185 crashed while he was piloting it. There was a report about the crash that you can read at Crash of a Beechcraft C18S in Blackfoot. No one was injured.
