MYLES W JOYCE
circa 1938. Myles was mayor of North Tonawanda, NY for 12 years, not consecutive, from 1938 to 1962. He was in office when his eldest daughter, Bette Ruth Joyce Smith and his eldest grandchild, Christopher Joyce Smith were born.

Bette was born during Myles' first term as mayor of the city. He was in office when Bette started school, during her school years and when she graduated from high school. He was mayor elect when she married Lloyd H Smith on 10/31/1959 and when their son, Christopher Joyce Smith was born 8/28/1960. Myles became "Poppie" for the second time when his granddaughter, Erin Elisabeth Smith Attard was born 2/23/1962. His only Great-Granddaughter, Shaelyn Elisabeth Attard was born on 7/22/1997 to Erin and Steven Attard. Erin passed away on July 26, 2016 from Juvenile Diabetes.


EDNA ELISABETH (KURKOWSKI) JOYCE

EDNA LIVED HER LIFE AS GOD WOULD HAVE WANTED! She took care of everyone, while working long hours as an accountant at Rowe Products in Niagara Falls, NY and running her own business out of the house. She was the "Best" mom in the world and taught us well. An active member of Salem Church, she loved her family and friends and supported Myles in all his endeavors.

"MUM" was 2 years old when her mother died in childbirth.She was raised by George and Cynthia Van Ostrand in Eagle Harbor, NY. During her elder years, she lived with Myles and Edna Joyce and Lockwood "Puddee" Rathbun, 6 months in NT and the balance of the year in Evanston, Ill. Her favorite color was blue and many tools and equipment were painted blue by her.


Michael is buried in St Francis Cemetary, Tonawanda, NY. He is fondly rememered as "Pop" to his granddaughters Helen Ann Joyce Leatzaw and Bette Ruth Joyce Smith. He was an avid reader and Helen Ann remembers cleaning his pipe for him. Bette remembers him waving goodby to her after a visit with his bookcases behind him thru the window.
