My grandfather loved to take photos. That's my dad, John Arthur Sermon, Jr, with one of his beloved Boston Terriers. He was probably still in high school so maybe mid to late 1940's?

There is nothing on this photo to provide date or location. Looks like a uniform but he never served in the Military. Possibly a jail uniform from any number of silly, petty crimes he got caught at. (accepting stolen merchandise which was flannel shirts and vacuums; cheating at cards - more than once, lol)

Alberta Sermon of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan was born on December 11, 1891, and died at age 81 years old in October 1973.
Robert Sermon of Moose Lake, Carlton County, Minnesota was born on August 13, 1883, and died at age 87 years old in April 1971.
My grandmother's name on her birth certificate is Emma Jane Dobbs. She was illegitimate. Her mother was very young when her own mother, Imogene VanVorst-Dobbs passed away. She was trying to name my grandmother after her. All my grandmother's life she went by Emmogene or Blondie. Before she married my grandfather, John A Sermon Sr, she went by her step-father's last name, Wallace. He was not her father. There is no record he ever adopted her. After he divorced my gr grandmother he never had any contact with her again. She was only two when they married about about 12 when they divorced. Only father she ever knew. In 40 years of research, I cannot find any evidence of my paternal grandparents marriage?

When Mary Elizabeth Dobbs was born on September 20, 1891, in Phelps, New York, her father, Don, was 36, and her mother, Imogene, was 31. Her mother died when Mary was just four, her brother Elmer was only 10. She met Frank Bauman and they had one daughter together. It is unclear what their relationship was. There is no record of Frank Bauman in her life and no family history. He is named on my grandmother's birth certificate and DNA has led me to his family. Mary then married Benjamin R. Wallace on December 7, 1912, in Caro, Michigan. Benjamin later divorced her and married two other times. He had no further contact with my grandmother or Mary to the best of my knowledge. Mary died on April 3, 1967, in Linwood, Michigan, at the age of 75.
