Romana Carmen Revueltas, stage name Carmen Peers, was born to Jose Silvestre Revueltas (1899 - 1940) and Julianna "Julie" Heavacek (born 1896). Jose was born in Mexico.
Romana Revueltas married Orrin J. Hill, a singer with the Met, on October 18, 1942, in Manhattan, New York. They had child Paul Jose Hill (1944 - 2001).
She also married Harry Del Peers and they had son Timothy Allen Peers (1956 - 2010).
Carmen was a dancer of mainly flamenco but also some ballet and owned dance schools later in her life as well. She was called a "Spanish Dancer" during her heyday, when American audiences weren't familiar with flamenco. Flamenco is a dance art form comprised of songs, dances, and instrumental music associated with southern Spain. Flamenco is rooted in the musical traditions of the Roma people in the Spanish region of Andalusia, as well as Extremadura and Murcia. The dance often incorporates castanets, hand clapping, foot stomping, and vivid facial expressions, transmitting the emotions of the dance.
