Glenn Honeycutt
Glenn Hunnicutt was born to Andrew Lekeeska "A.L." Honeycutt (1892-1967) and Zona Pearl Rippetoe (1894-1968), and had ten siblings: Dalton (1914-1979), Benjamin "Ben" (1916-1918), Ruby Mary (1917-1971), LaFoye (1919-1980), Lila Mae (1921-2014), Ola Lue (1922-2001), Max Erwin (1923-1984), Maxie (1924-2000), Virgie (1926-2000), and Nora Pearl Honeycutt (1934-2008). According to the 1940 federal census, Glenn was 12 years old and living with his parents Andrew (47) and Zona (45) and was in the 5th grade. Also in the household were siblings Dalton (age 25), Lillie Mae (18), Ola (17), Maxie (16), Virgie (14), Nora Pearl (5), Ruby (22), and grandchildren Patricia Keeler, age 2, and Wanda Joy, age 1. Glenn's father Andrew stated he was born in Missouri and his mother Zona Pearl said that she was born in Oklahoma. All of the children were born in Texas. Both Andrew and his son Dalton were listed as farmers. On Glenn's World War 2 draft card which he filled out in 1942, Glenn was living in Dozier in Collingsworth County, Texas. He was 18 years old and listed his profession as a farmer with his father. He was also going to school. He listed his father as his next of kin. Glenn was 5 ft 10 inches tall and weighed 170 lbs, had hazel eyes, brown hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. A veteran, Glenn enlisted in the United States Army on September 22nd 1950 and was discharged on June 23rd 1952. He went on to marry Elwanda Ioan Sturgill (1923-2002) and they had children Truman Honeycutt (1943 - 1957). Alice May (1941 - 2014), Wendill Farris (1944 - 2013), Lafonda, Bonnie, Sandra, Glenda, Danny, Terry, and Michael Lynn Honeycutt (1951 - 2021).
Stephen Sondheim
Stephen's parents were Herbert S Sondheim, 1895-1966, and Etta Janet Fox, 1898-1992. He had half-siblings, Herbert B Sondheim Jr, 1943-1994, and Walter Sondheim (survived him). Stephen's father owned a dressmaking company and his mother (known as "Foxy") was a designer for the company. But when Stephen was 10, his father abandoned the family. In the 1940 federal census, mother "Janet" and Steven (sic) were living in NYC with a maid and a butler. Janet was married and not working, Steven was in school. On December 31, 2017, he married Jeffrey Scott Romley in Brooklyn NY, and Jeffrey survives him. You can scroll down to read a story from the New York Times about Mr. Sondheim.
Eddie Van Halen
Considered one of the best and most innovative guitarists of all time, Eddie Van Halen (born in Amsterdam, Netherlands to Jan van Halen and Eugenia Van Halen, moved with his family (which included his older brother, Alex Van Halen) to the US in 1962. Both Alex and Eddie began piano lessons, although Eddie later admitted he couldn't read music: He learned to play by watching and listening and often improvised, even in recitals. Alex moved on from piano to guitar and Eddie moved over to the drums but after hearing Alex play "Wipe Out," Eddie thought the guitar was more interesting - switching again! Alex and Eddie then formed their first band (with three other boys, Eddie was in the 4th grade) called "The Broken Combs" (if you were around in the '60s, your first thought may be men's long hair!) In 1972, they went on to form their first professional band, later named "Van Halen," that performed in and around Los Angeles. In 1977, they got their first contract with Warner Records and by the early 1980s, Van Halen became "one of the most successful rock acts of the time." Eddie also played in other venues and was the holder of three patents related to guitars. In 1981, he married actress Valerie Bertinelli and they had one son (Wolfgang). They officially divorced in 2007 and Eddie married his girlfriend, Janie Liszewski in 2009. Both Valerie and Wolfgang attended the ceremony. In 2000, Eddie received treatment for tongue cancer - which resulted in the loss of 1/3 of his tongue. Then, around 2014, he developed throat cancer. It eventually spread throughout his body and resulted in his passing 5+ years later. Speaking at an event at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in 2015, Eddie discussed his life and the American Dream, saying "We came here with approximately $50 and a piano, and we didn't speak the language. Now look where we are. If that's not the American dream, what is?"
