Jennifer (Hutton) Goertler
About me:
I am a married mother of 2 grown children, Annastasia and Kyle. I live in Cleveland, Ohio. My parents never had many answers about where our family came from, so I've been researching and trying to fill in the blanks, on and off, for a couple of years now.
About my family:
My father's family name is Hutton. He comes from the Hutton-Flynn union. The Huttons being from the Mahoning County, Ohio area before moving to Cleveland. The Flynns in his family came from Pennsylvania, before moving to Cleveland.
My mother's name is a bit more complicated. Her father was raised by his maternal grandparents, after his mother died 10 days after his birth. My maternal grandfather's name at birth was Huggins, but he later adapted his grandparents last name of Hill. So mom comes from the (Huggins) Hill and Sherick (spelled so many ways, my grandmother spelled it with a SH and only one R, but her parents and siblings all spelled it differently) union, out of Moundsville, West Virginia.

She had siblings Betty Denichols, Gertrude Maxine Sherick, Marshall Arnold Scherick, and Goldie Kathleen Scherick. Mary McPeek died at age 61 years old on February 24, 1981 in Los Angeles, CA.
Goldie Kathleen (Scherick) Slonaker of McMechen, West Virginia United States was born on November 26, 1917 in Moundsville to Charles John Scherick and Pleasy Jane Furbee. Goldie Slonaker has siblings Betty Denichols, Gertrude Maxine Sherick, Marshall Arnold Scherick, and Mary Sybil (Scherick).
Marshall Arnold Scherick of Moundsville, West Virginia United States was born on January 21, 1916 in Moundsville to Charles John Scherick and Pleasy Jane Furbee. He had siblings Betty Denichols, Gertrude Maxine Sherick, Goldie Kathleen Scherick, and Mary Sybil (Scherick). Marshall Scherick died at age 75 years old on January 29, 1991.

Pleasy Jane (Furbee) Scherick of Moundsville, West Virginia United States was born on September 6, 1891. She was married to Charles John Scherick in 1913, and had children Marshall Arnold Scherick, Goldie Kathleen Scherick, Mary Sybil (Scherick), Betty Denichols, and Gertrude Maxine Sherick. Pleasy Scherick died at age 43 years old on July 14, 1935 in Moundsville.
Pleasy, whom went by her middle name of Jane, was my great grandmother. She died just shy of her 44th birthday, leaving behind 8 children, 5 of them minors.
From my research, it appears the name Pleasy came from her grandmother's name, Pleasant.
She died of a brain tumor, which my grandmother, her daughter, Gertrude, would also succumb to as well.

Charles John Scherick of Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia United States was born on July 4, 1890 in Moundsville, Marshall County. He was married to Pleasy Jane Furbee in 1913, and had children Marshall Arnold Scherick, Goldie Kathleen Scherick, Mary Sybil (Scherick), Betty Denichols, and Gertrude Maxine Sherick. Charles Scherick died at age 80 years old on February 24, 1971 in Wheeling.
