Van was funny smart and loved by his family and friends. He loved a good debate and History was his favorite subject. He graduated from Mira Costa High School the graduating class of 1964. He tried college at Iowa State returned home and started his career at TRW in Redondo Beach. We met when I was a senior at Aviation High School in 1965 through a mutual friend at school. We soon married in Vegas in October after I graduated in 1966. Van was 20 and I was 18 when we had a daughter Kimberly Dione born in 1967. We were always best friends even after our divorce 8 years later. Van had a love for music and was an avid sports enthusiast loving college football and volleyball. He loved Irish festivals and Celtic music and a good beer. He loved to travel and always dreamed of sailing away. I always hoped he would travel the world and live out his dreams. Van has two grandkids Rebecca and Connor and a great grandson Levi age two. He was able to meet Levi a few days before he peacefully passed away on August 3, 2024 at 8:41 am. His daughter and granddaughter was at his bedside during his last week to send him into his next life to be with Jesus. During their prayers with the help of his night nurse who played Christian music all night and spoke to him about heaven he accepted Jesus into his heart and was able to leave as he had said his goodbyes to everyone including his sister Lianne who found out she had another brother she didn’t know she had. They became great friends for quite a few years and was able to FaceTime him from Oregon a few days before he left us. His family and friends will surely miss his joyful spirit.
