Jesse was my father. I was just 9 years old when he died so my memories of him are those of an adoring child in awe of him. He was passionate, intelligent, loving, warm-hearted, talented, boisterous, funny - he was larger than life. He took care of me. He was generous. He loved life. He always had something good to say to everyone. He wanted the people in his life to be happy and he did everything possible to ensure that. I have missed him every day of my life.

Georgia was the daughter of William and Stella Scocos. She had one sister, Lea. She was a talented artist, a sculptor - she worked in stone, wood and metal. She went to a studio in Manhattan called Mineos. She was married to Jesse Silverstein and had three children: Mary, Dvorah and David. After Jesse died she went back to school and earned her bachelor's and master's degree in art therapy. She worked thereafter in hospitals such a Bellevue and Kings County. She was well -liked by her colleagues and patients.

Stella Scocos, born Fragos, was married to William Scocos. They had two children: my mother Georgia and Lea, my aunt. She loved making clothes; when she was still working she was a dressmaker. She made most things herself and always dressed nicely, fashionably. She also loved to cook and was excellent at it! Especially Greek Christmas cookies with powdered sugar - we called them goodabiethes (not the real spelling). When we came to visit there was always a candy dish filled with Hershey's chocolate kisses. She was born in a small rural village in Greece, and came to New York after WWI. She proudly told us that as a child she was the first girl to go to school and learn to read. After Popou, my grandfather, died, she spent a lot of time with us - of her two daughters my mother was the only one with children.
